My experience exactly! I recall just recently a parallel experience as yours
with Firl on the subject of matrilineality and patrilineality. My first
encounter with Firl was over a rather shallow and obviously banal reading
of Leslie White's work. My understanding of Bryant's exposure to the
ehtnographic literature in particular, and anthropology and social sciences in
general, is - he has none, or simply ignores it in his quest for the
sociobiological agenda.

What is really appalling is the insistence that the rest of us educate
ourselves before we even attempt an illuminated discussion with them on the
subject of human social behavior and culture. Boggles!

Cheers,
