"Emic" refers to looking at things such as
cultures and societies from an "inside"
perspective, that is, like you were a member
of the particular study objective. "Etic" by
contrast is an analysis using all the scientific,
sociological, and behavioral (viz. psychological)
variables for conclusion-based hypotheses applied
to that same study objective.
