Obviously they vary enormously - a Cessna 152 uses less fuel than
Concorde :-)
Here's a typical figure: a Learjet 35A (an 8 seater executive jet)
cruising for optimum fuel economy at 45,000 feet travels 487 miles an
hour and burns 142 US gallons of fuel - ie it does 3.43 miles/gallon :-)
