Common ancestral primate fossils are found, including some close to the diver-
gence of hominoids and other primates. Chimps (and other apes) are native to
areas which are hostile to preservation, tho (rainforests, etc), so it is not
to surprising that immediate chimp ancestors have not turned up yet. And as
noted, there has been extra interest in the search for specifically HOMINID
ancestors, further lowering the odds of discovery....
