I sure as hell got a big kick out of the Tarzan and Mars books. I credit
Tarzan not only w/ my career choice, but with making me a voracious
reader. I think I'd read all of them by the time I was 7 or 8.
As far as bolgani diets go -- in the battle between Tarzan and
the gorilla in "Tarzan of the Apes", I think ERB implies that the gorilla
was a blood-thirsty flesh eater. Its been 15 or 20 years since I've read
it, so I'm not positive.
I agree that ERB's description of chimpanzees is generally more
accurate than he's given credit for, especially given the lack of
knowledge at the time.
