9) For the linguistics, Parpola 1994 (?), not included here, is most
current. I'm not competent to judge its quality, but it seems strong to
me.

Dales and Kenoyer have also recently published (in 1991, I think). A

finished a five year excavation at Harappa, and put out a very good

Possehl 1982 contains a large number of articles, many by Indian

are reports of regional surveys, indicating a very large number of sites.
This civilization was very extensive. Whether or not they were the same
civilization as that practiced in Mohenjo-daro or Harappa, and how you
define same, is kind of another problem.

Rita Wright has done some really good articles on the ceramics. I think
the editor of the collected preliminary reports of the Harappan
excavations is Richard Meadow, who did the faunal analysis. I think its
one of the monographs in world prehistory, from Wisconsin.
If youre really interested in that Aryan question, included in that
volume is a piece on the physical anthropology of the Harappans, which
connects them to larger subcontinent. I forget the main author
(Hemphill?), but Lukacs is a secondary author, and hes a very good guy
whos published some excellent, if somewhat technical, stuff on the dental
evidence of the Harappans. Kennedys article is very good, too.
39) Wenke, in Patterns in Prehistory (which is a very good introductory
textbook), has a decent section on Harappa, if you already have that
around as a resource. The other stuff is harder to find.
I have a more extensive bibliography if youre really interested. Its not
my area of focus, but Ive done a little bit of work in school here on it,
though Im getting further away from it.
The best references are:
a) Meadow,
b) Possehl,
c) Kenoyer,
d) Dales,
e) Wright,
f)Lukacs.
g) Wheeler is fun, and useful in a general way, but outdated. There isnt
actually all that muchits kind of hard to do archaeology there.
