Hello,
The swastika is not a complex geometric construction
(make x, add arms). It is not unreasonable to think
that it evolved in many cultures simply as a result
of doodling. The shape lends itself to interlocking,
repeating motifs (stare at your bathroom tile for a
while, swastikas aren't hard to pull out of the design).
Because of its natural repeatability swastikas can be
found in Celtic knotwork and in Islamic mosaics. Rather
than looking to the stars for an explanation for the
wide spread use of the swastika it might be better to look
at the design itself.
