I'm not too sure what you mean by Geological references but Sterkfontein has
recently been dated to c. 2 Ma by ESR. The ref is:

Schwarcz, H.P., Grün, R.G. & Tobias, P.V. (1994a) ESR dating of the
Australopithecine site of Sterkfontein, Transvaal, South Africa. Journal of
Human Evolution. 26.175-81.

The article also deals with the other attempts at getting an age estimate.
