If memory serves Renato Resaldo has suggested that a more appropriate
response to this article should be anger (though perhaps not at Miner) as it
illustrates how de-humanizing anthropological description and analysis can
be. Rosaldo certainly has a good point but the self-mocking of American
bathroom rituals (the "traditional" reading) is quite humorous and
usefully de-centering.
