Looks like I am finally being accepted as an equal among the world's
anthropologists, after such a prolonged stuggle to get a grip on their
complex entry criteria.
But here we are, granted the password at last! No doubt obtained from
some remote tribe somewhere and then typically transformed into the
meaningless gibberish which nevertheless unlocks all of the doors to
academe.
Yada Yada Yada, yes? Somewhat reminiscent, if I may add, of the Ponki!
Ponki! with which white tourists greet the Tiwi up there on Bathurst
Island.
But do we have to add "You're an idiot" every time? I'm not sure Hugh
will like that. Or Professor Moerman. McCarthy? Hmmmm . . .
But if it looks like the end of the dole, unending offers of tenure,
full classes, a high salary no doubt from an American University, and
my own intellectual trajectory guaranteeing acceptance back here in
Western Australia, what the heck.
