Funny thing: Randy Thornhill and Ed Wilson grew up in the same
town (Decatur, Alabama). I believe they both chased bugs in the same field
outside of town. They both became entomologists, and then both switched
to studying vertebrate (human) behavior in evolutionary context.
And, they're both political liberals, apparently. So much for academic
marxists'* stereotypes about the "reactionary" sociobiologists!
