Letter to the LA Times
Peter M. Nardi claimed in your letters column that the ever-increasing
suicide rate among teen-agers results in part from the social prejudice faced
by teen-age Gays and Lesbians.
Gays and Lesbians make up only about 1-to-10% of the population at most
(different polls yield different statistics) but a much larger minority makes
up approximately 48% of the population -- namely, males. And this much larger
minority confronts group libel and stereotyping every day of their lives, in
the form of the "respectable" "politically correct" Androphobia of our times.
Androphobia (as preached by Glorie Steinem, Andrea Dworkin etc.) transfers to
all males the negative stereotypes that the Ku Klux Klan assigns only to
Black males: mental inferiority, emotional childishness, brutality, sub-human
status, criminality, sexual violence etc. -- everything but "a great sense of
rhythm."
It should come as no surprise, in a society where Androphobia is the one
"respectable" form of bigotry, that the suicide rate of male teen-agers ranks
FOUR TIMES HIGHER than that of females.
In the early '20s, when people are grappling most painfully with sex role
identity, the male suicide rate soars to SIX TIMES THAT OF FEMALES.

If anybody cares to argue that Androphobia plays no role in these awful
statistics, just imagine a society in which red-heads, instead of some
traditional minority, were stigmatized as mentally inferior, emotionally
unstable, probably criminal etc. Would you feel surprised to find a high
suicide rate among red-heads in such an environment?
HEY HEY! HO HO! ANDROPHOBIA HAS TO GO!
GAY OR STRAIGHT, MALES ARE GREAT! BALLS ARE NO EXCUSE TO HATE!
