Jennifer:
A good place to begin your research is Noel Justice's =Stone Age Spear
and Arrow Points of the Midcontinental and Eastern United States: A
Modern Survey and Reference= (Bloomington: Indiana University Press,
1987 [Pbk ed, 1995]). Also, Ellen Sue Turner and Thomas R. Hester, =A
Field Guide to Stone Artifacts of Texas Indians= (Austin: Texas Monthly
Press, 1985), is a good starting point for that state and adjacent areas.
If you have any question as to the identification of the rock type of your
point, you might consider consulting someone in your school's geology
department. I have seen very fine-grained quartzites in our and other
collections, so would not reject that identification simply because the
point is small.
Good luck....
