Due to the large number of requests for information about the
American Anthroplogical Association Guide to Departments received
via e-mail, I thought it a good idea to post the details here.
If you can't find the AAA guide in your library, it may be purchased from
the AAA. The price is $35.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members. The
Association moved recently and the new address is:
American Anthropological Association
4350 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 640
Arlington, VA 22203
Phone: (703) 528-1902
The latest edition is _AAA Guide 1993-1994_, Frederick Custer, ed. It
contains information about US, Canadian, and some foreign departments,
directories of members and faculty, statistics, recent PhD dissertations,
and indexes by department and state. Department information includes such
things as degrees offered, faculty (year and institution of highest degree),
faculty rank and areas of specialization, Faculty in other departments and
research staff, chairperson, students in residence, student support available
(grants, loans, assistantships, etc.), degrees granted, requirements for
degrees offered, special programs, special resources and facilities,
publications, and address for further information or catalog. Some
institutions include e-mail addresses for faculty members.
In addition to departments of Anthropology, the guide describes National
Park System Anthropology programs, Museums, and private companies that employ
anthropologists. The 1993-94 guide is an 8 1/2 x 11" paperback of 556 pages.
