The reports you have seen lately originated from a press conference
held by the co-leaders of the research team, Drs. Tim White, Berhane
Asfaw, and Gen Suwa, at the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa,
almost exactly one week ago today. The material has just been found, so
of course there will need to be months of work put into preparing the
fossils and even longer stints of time put into analyzing them before more
detailed descriptive and analytical papers come out. For now, not much is
being said, but I think you may rest soundly knowing that "Lucy" is no
longer the oldest, most complete hominid skeleton known.
