Does anyone out there (Anita? others) know of a good *annotated* version
of Alvar Nun~ez Cabeza de Vaca's account of his walk across Texas/N Mexico
... I have a
version of his account orig pblished in 1922 translated and Introduction
by Bandalier. But the account is confusing (to say the least!) and the
introduction exceedingly outdated. I would like an annotated version to
use in a class on North American Indians. it seems there are numerous
annoations of accounts of De Soto's entrada in the SE, but I haven't been
able to locate a good book on Cabeza de Vaca.

Also, any other
suggestions for good clear (i.e. appropriate for undergraduates) *early*
European accounts of Native Americans
north of Mesoamerica would be appreciated. (Iknow this is a *huge* area of
literature, e.g. the chronicles of French Jesuits are rich sources, so I
make the last request with much trepidation and humility
-- I am definitely out of my principal area of expertise here ... )
Thanks for any suggestions.
