Hello --

I am posting this on behalf of a colleague who is
studying the use of the Irish language in practical
settings in modern Ireland. Economic pressures have
made it necessary for that country to adopt English in
favor of its native language. My colleague is interested
in the maintenance of Irish despite such pressure.

Does anyone have any references on this subject,
or know where I might locate futher information? She is
also interested in cross-cultural comparisons of this
situation, so references along that line would also be
helpful.
