Dear Colleagues:

I am completing work on a paper for this fall's American Anthropological
Association meetings on intellectual communities on the internet. The
focus of this paper is to explore how internet intellectual discussions
resemble the intellectual salons of the 19th and early 20th Century in
their virtual meetings of the minds to share ideas "a-borning" and to shape
intellectual discourse before it goes to a wider audience. I am
particularly interested in smaller, spin-off groups that extracted
themselves from larger list-serves to devote themselves to a particular
topic.

I promise this will be the last general appeal of this type on the net;
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful to reply to me directly and NOT to the
whole net. I have some specific questions to ask those interested in
responding.

Thanks,
