R. Wilk asks whether we, an anthropologists, want to be highly public in
exposing the false stereotypes about the ecological sensitivity of
small-scale societies. M. Johnson then takes him to task for advocating
a "cover-up" of the truth. I suggest a middle ground in which we *as
anthropologists*, do our best to correct sentimental misconceptions;
meanwhile, I would hope we, *as human beings*, try to see that we
present our correctives in a way that does not play into the hands of
people of ill will. --Bob Graber
