mass media and anthropology

By way of introduction/background:
I am grad student spearheading a project here in Tampa to connect our
department and area practicing anthros with the local news media. The
purpose is to get anthro knowledge and research out to the public, and
also to let the media know that anthros are generally a good source of
background info. If the model is successful it could be adapted by most
universities, at least in N. America.
My first question is, does anyone know if such a project has been
initiated before, either locally or nationally, and if so, what were the
results?
Second, I am trying to find anthros who have worked in the news media,
as journalists or otherwise, or who have had significant contact (eg: as
a columnist, commentator, guest spokesperson, etc.) with the media. I
have seen Susan Allen's "Media Anthropology" and Meredith Bruns' CASC
site; is there other stuff?
Any responses/comments/addresses to tredding@luna.cas.usf.edu. would be
greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
tr
