I don't know how things are in France, but here in the United States--California
and Arizona, at least--teachers are not valued very highly by society. My wife,
who is neither stupid nor uneducated, has a *formal* education through the 10th
grade. She makes more money driving a bus for a public transportation system
than most K-12 teachers make, and more than some community college teachers.
Nice priorities, eh?
