Have you read Elizabeth Croll and David Parkin's volume, 'Bush Base:
Forest Farm'? Also a few of the papers in Hirsch and O'Hanlon's 'The
Anthropology of Landscape'. I've just been teaching a course on
anthropology and development, and focused quite a bit on environment
and sustainable development. I found it useful to draw from a wide
range of interdisciplinary material, and particularly liked a book
edited by Rosa Braidotti, Ewa Charkiewicz, Sabine Hausler and Saskia
Wieringa: 'Women, the Environment and Sustainable Development'. In
terms of institutions, you might want to contact Sussex University's
centre for culture, environment and development.
