CALL FOR PAPERS

is pleased to host the 34th Annual Meeting of the

WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY

May 9 - 12, 1996

RE/TURNING RIGHT: CULTURE, POLITICS & SOCIETY APPROACHING THE MILLENNIUM

At a time of increasing hegemony of the new right, we wish to encourage
theoretical, methodological and pedagogical discussion of topics related
to the "turn to the right". We especially encourage participation of
students and scholars from all disciplines to present papers, organize
panels, convene workshops and roundtable discussions on topics
pertaining to the conference theme. Two publishing houses have
expressed interest in an edited volume of selected papers from the
conference. Conference fees, including membership fee in WASA are
$70/$25 students; accommodation has been booked at the Coast Capri
Hotel (single/double rooms at $85 per night) in downtown Kelowna,
walking distance to Lake Okanagan, restaurants, bars and clubs,
shopping, museums, wine tasting tours, and more. Pending outcome of a
SSHRCC conference grant, some funding may be available to participants,
please enquire. In addition to a keynote lecture, plenary speakers, and
cherry blossom time in the Okanagan, paper topics and panel/workshop
issues include:

+ Downsizing the Welfare State: Canadian and American Structural
Adjustment
+ Gay and Lesbian Studies
