Once again, I am forwarding mail on behalf of Cameron Laird, who is having
trouble posting to the list.

Danny.

Danny, please forward what follows to ANTHRO-L
on my behalf:

It's been several weeks, but there was enough vitality
in the discussion of evolutionary concepts and their
application in anthropology that I want to offer one
pointer.

"genealogy" was a bad word to use; it actually suggests an evolutionary
species approach. The BSC (biological species concept) stresses
reproductive isolation more. The following quote may be helpful.
.
[lots of good descriptions
of "species", evolution in
anthropologic context, ...]

Along with the apt analyses and references that Danny
and others have circulated, I recommend <URL:http://
www.wehi.edu.au/~wilkins/MA/Thesis.html>, John Wilkin's
Master's-level thesis on "Evolutionary models of sci-
entific theory change". Before getting down to its
nominal subject, it does a lot of work constructing a
sound historical and philosophical perspective on
evolution.
