CIEE WORK ABROAD (IOP) has added short term work opportunities
in Jamaica to its options for summer work abroad. The program
allows students to work from June 1 to October 1. To help offset

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
========================

PRINCETON-IN-ASIA (IOP) offers one- or two-year internship openings
in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Singapore, South
Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. Most internships are as English
teachers at high schools, colleges and universities. In Korea,
Singapore and Japan, there are a few specialized positions in
engineering, government, journalism and other fields. Stipends are
provided. Housing is either provided or arranged. Arrangements
can be made to allow for studies and personal projects. A BA is
required, as is TESL experience for teaching positions. Asian
language ability is *not* a prerequisite. Application deadline
is December 1. Some applications may be considered as late as
February 1.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
=======================

OPERATIONS CROSSROADS AFRICA (IOP) offers the opportunity to spend
seven weeks in the summer as a volunteer with an international
development project in an African community on a program that
served as a model for Peace Corps. Languages used include English,
French and Portuguese. Host countries (and languages) include Cape
Verde (P), Cote d'Ivoire (F), Ethiopia (E), the Gambia (E),
Ghana (E), Guinea-Bissau (P), Kenya (E), Madagascar (F), Mali (F),
Namibia (E), Senegal (F), Tanzania (E), Togo (F), Uganda (E),
Zambia (E) and Zimbabwe (E). Projects include six work weeks and
one travel week. Application deadline is rolling.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY

EARTHWATCH (IOP) offers opportunities for volunteer work on over
160 research projects in 55 countries and 25 USA states. Partial

TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES
======================================

CIEE (IOP) has immediate openings for TEACHER TRAINERS in Latvia,
Macedonia, Poland and Romania for the 1994-95 EFL Fellow Program
in Eastern/Central Europe. Fellows selected to participate will
work with and train local teachers of English in the region.
Assignments will begin immediately. Applicants must be US citizens
and have an MA in TESL/TEFL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely
related field, and considerable teacher training experience,
preferably overseas. Fellows receive a generous stipend, cost of
living and housing allowance, medical insurance, and round-trip
airfare between the US and their overseas post. For information,

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
==============================

LEXIA EXCHANGE INTERNATIONAL (IOP) is offering new semester,
academic year and summer programs in Argentina (in cooperation
with Universidad de Buenos Aires) and Germany (in cooperation with
Institut fuer Internationale Bildung Berlin). Courses are offered
in culture, economics, history, politics and the language of the
host country. No prior language study required. Students design
and complete a field research project as part of their curriculum.
SCHOLARSHIPS are available. Application deadlines are November 15
for spring and April 15 for fall and summer. For more information,

THE CENTER FOR ARABIC STUDY ABROAD (CASA) offers a limited number
of fellowships for Arabic language study at the American University
in Cairo to upper-division undergraduate and graduate students
committed to a career in Middle East Studies. Requirements include
US citizenship or permanent residency, two years of Arabic language
study and passing a written exam. Two programs are available: 1) a
two-month summer institute concentrating on colloquial Egyptian
Arabic and 2) a full-year program including colloquial but
emphasizing literary Arabic. Application deadline is January 1.

FACULTY OPPORTUNITIES
===============================

THE CENTER FOR ARABIC STUDY ABROAD (CASA) also offers fellowships
for a seven-week refresher course in Arabic for professors of the
humanities and social sciences who specialties focus on any part
of the Islamic period, are US citizens or permanent residents, and
have a strong background in the Arabic language. The fellowship
covers airfare, tuition and a stipend. Application deadline is
January 1.

IUP - THE INTER-UNIVERSITY PROGRAM FOR CHINESE LANGUAGE STUDIES
in Taiwan is offering summer fellowships to post-doctoral scholars
for further language studies. A good foundation in Mandarin is
required. Instruction, stipends and travel expenses are included.
All established post-doctoral scholars (5 years post-dissertation)
are eligible. Application deadline is February 15. For information,
