Yesterday, I saw Murry interviewed by Michael Kinsley on CNN. During the
interview he made the statement that 30 years ago people, regardless of race,
were judged as individuals. Since then, government programs have force us to
deal with people as parts of racial groups. He says he is only advocating a
return to the "judging on an individual" basis that was the norm. For those not
around 30 years ago, let me note that for summer jobs I was paid more than my
black co-workers who knew the job better than I and were physically better able
to do it. IQ was not required to man a shovel but race was certainly a factor
in wage determination.
