SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
AUTHOR:
SUBJECT/DISCIPLINE: Archaeology
DESCRIPTION: The Virtual Pompeii simulation is based on the Theater
Complex, which includes the Large Theater, the Temple of Hercules,
and the Samnite Palestra, among other constructions as they
appeared prior to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79.
Importantly, the reenactment of a typical theatrical performance
at the Large Theater is a special feature available in the
simulation. One will enter an open air amphitheater and view an
authentic theatrical performance. Thus, in Virtual Pompeii one can
experience Pompeiian life and culture, including the arts,
religion, and private life.
PUBLISHER/SOURCE: the Archaeological Institute of America, Silicon
Graphics, Inc., and the Studio for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie
Mellon University.
