This list was compiled with the help of the folks on AIA-L, Anthro-L,
and Arch-L. Updated versions are posted to these lists, and, with
thanks to Don Hanna, are also avaliable through the gopher and WWW pages
of the department of Archaeology at the University of Calgary. Please

AUTHOR:

DESCRIPTION: Features Teotihuacan, Petra, Pompeii and Knossos(?).
Features narrated, travelogue-like "guided tours", click-on maps
featuring photos of major structures, text of articles taken from
Scientific American special issue (June 1994) of same name with
hypertext links to illustrations of scultpure, architecture, etc.
More like a slide show, but perhaps useful as a visual teaching
aid.

'develop' their society into a complex civilization (modelled on
Rome or the ancient Middle East?) while overcoming various
challenges ('barbarian' invasions, imperial rivals, plagues,
famines, etc.).

NAME: Excavations at Isthmia
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: '040 or better Macintosh, or '386 or better Intel-
based machine running Windows 3.0 or later. 8 meg of Ram is needed
by both platforms as well as 9 meg. of hard disk space

SUBJECT/DISCIPLINE: Archaeology
DESCRIPTION:The Excavations at Isthmia multimedia program is a
multimedia application which has been developed to serve as a case
study for the introductorystudies of ancient history and
archaeological field methodology. Within the program, students
will be introduced to many concepts of Greek History and classical
archaeology. The program focuses primarily upon the Ohio State
University excavations in the Roman Bath area of the Sanctuary to
Poseidon at Isthmia; the program also discusses certain
archaeological concepts such as stratigraphy, absolute dating and
relative dating. Features of the program include graphics of the
site, animations, hypertext links, digitized sounds for the
pronounciations of terms, and digital video clips of actual
excavation. The program comes on 6 diskettes and is accompanied
by a manual.
PUBLISHER/SOURCE: Currently negotiations are taking place with several
potential publishers. In its final form, the program will
probably ship on CD-ROM. In the meantime, manual and software
(disks) will be made available for around $16 to anyone requesting
it; please specify computer configuration (Mac or Windows).
