SOUTHWEST SYMPOSIUM PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
The 1996 Southwest Symposium will be held in Tempe, Arizona, on the campus
of Arizona State University, on February 9&10 (Friday and Saturday). The
dates were in large part dictated by the scheduling of the Super Bowl, which
will be in Tempe an January 28. The meeting is organized by:

The theme of the overall meeting is Regional Interaction in the Prehistoric
Southwest. The meeting will consist of four invited sessions and several
other activities. The preliminary schedule is outlined below :

Friday (2/9) morning:
Issues in the Study of Regional Systems. Organized by Alison Rautman,
Michigan State University.
Friday afternoon:
Inter-regional Economics and Exchange in the Prehispanic Southwest,
Organized by Randy McGuire, SUNY, Binghamton.
Friday evening:
Catered dinner, followed by SARG (Southwestern Anthropological Research
Group) Revisited. Organized by Sylvia Gaines, Arizona State University,
Saturday (2/10) morning:
Beyond the Borders of the Traditional Southwest, Organized by Sarah
Schlanger, Museum of New Mexico.
Saturday afternoon:
The Spread of Religions, Organized by Kelley Hays-Gilpin, Northern Arizona
University
Saturday late afternoon:
Reception, hosted by the Department of Anthropology, Arizona State
University.

TBA:
Reception for Women in Southwest Archaeology. Organized by Katherine
Spielmann, Arizona State University.
TBA:
Poster session(s), including individual posters and, hopefully, groups of
related posters. Organized by Margaret Nelson, Arizona State University. A
call for poster abstracts will be sent out in early November.
