I originally sent this to the originator of the thread, but think it is
worth sharing with the group as a whole. Michael Jackson (not "the
glove") has a warm, readable and deep book on the very topic of how
intercommunication is possible across cultural and interpersonal
boundaries. It is based on his long experience working with the Kuranko
in Sierra Leone; he argues strongly against radical subjectivitism, and
towards a recognition of common human experience as the basis for all
communication. The book is called "Paths Toward a Clearing" dated 1992
from Indiana University Press. Joe Bob says "Check it out."
