We here at Texas A&M University's Department of Anthropology are pleased
to announce that we have just received permission from the Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board to expand our Ph.D. program to
cover the whole discipline. Although we have been offering a Master's
degree program in the whole discipline for quite a few years, until
now our Ph.D. program has been limited to archaeology. We now can
offer the Ph.D. in sociocultural and physical anthropology, as well.

The department currently has two sociocultural anthropologists
(Norbert Dannhaeuser and Lee Cronk), two folklorists (Sylvia Grider
and Tom Green), and two physical anthropologists (Gentry Steele and
Katherine Dettwyler). In sociocultural we offer specialized instruction
in economic anthropology, ecological anthropology, and folklore,
with regional specializations in Africa, South and Southeast Asia,
Europe, and North America. In physical anthropology our faculty
specialize in bioarchaeology, human physical evolution, growth and
development, and nutritional anthropology.

In archaeology, we offer specialized training in nautical archaeology,
conservation, geoarchaeology, palynology, paleoethnobotany, paleo-
nutrition, lithic technology, zooarchaeology, and historical archaeology.
