There's a story attributed to Michael Silverstein at U of Chicago. He was
explaining to his grandmother, and old style Eastern European Jewish bubbe,
what anthropologists did. He told her that we go and live with native people
in their villages, eat what they eat, live how they live, and ask them lots
of questions about things they do. Like how they organize their households,
what kinds of work they do, the histories of their families and village, about
their sex lives, friendships, politics, and things like that. After listening
intently to Michael's explanation, she asked, "So is it any of your business?"
