The California Academy of Sciences invites applications for the position
of Irvine Chair of Anthropology and Chair of Anthropology. The Academy,
founded in 1853, has strong emphases in systematics, evolutionary
a+~biology, ecology and natural history in both its research and
educational programs. The successful candidate will be expected to have an
anthropological research program that falls within these areas. We seek a
colleague with a wide range of interests who could advise and contribute
to on-going research programs and other activities at the Academy.
Candidates should have a Ph. D., with an established research program, and
a dedication to education and public programs. Some administrative
experience and knowledge of issues related to museology preferred.
Proximity of the Academy to greater San Francisco Bay Area colleges and
universities offers the potential for interaction and collaboration with a
wide array of Anthropology and othe scientific programs. Statring salary:
