It's a slow day, with little mail and nothing else to do.

It is very easy to verify that this is a not an "actual letter." Each of
the first five lines contains an objective error:
1) Any letter that starts off
> > THIS IS AN ACTUAL LETTER FROM THE ARCHIVES OF THE SMITHSONIAN.
is not.
2) There is no such division as the
> > Paleoanthropology Division
3) The name of the insititution is not
> > Smithsonian Institute
^^^^^^^^^
it is Institution
^^^^^^^^^^^
4) The street address is not
> > 207 Pennsylvania Avenue
The address of the National Museum of Natural History (wherein lies
anthropology) is
10th and Constitution, N.W.
5) The zip code is not
> > Washington, DC 20078
but has always been 20560. [Zip codes for Pennsylvania Ave range from
20001-20010, and 20037. There is apparently no 20078 in D.C.]
Now, as for whether the contents of the letter are "very funny," that is
a subjective response. :-)
