While one can refer to pairs of individuals in the hard sciences, it is
equally true that there is a long list of single researchers, particularly
at a mathematical/theoretical level. In mathematics one would be hard
pressed to come up with an example of a collaborative pair of mathematicians
who stand out as major contributors to the field.
