Here is the course outline for our upcoming MANAGING ARCHAEOLOGICAL
RESOURCES course which is offered through the Cultural Resource
Management Program at the University of Victoria from June 5 - 10.

- Overview of archaeological resource management
in the Canadian context
- Comparison with resource management practices in
an international context

TUESDAY, JUNE 6
- Concepts of archaeological, cultural and traditional
use resources management in the First Nations context
- Presentation and discussion of case study
- The business of archaeology; the role of consultants
and developers
- Archaeological permit systems and regulations
- A critical review of current regulations and processes
First Nations permit systems; future perspectives

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7
- Traditional use studies and their application in
First Nations heritage resource management
-Integrating traditional use studies with archaeological
resource management projects
- Archaeology on trial; case study of current conflict
over the development of an archaeological site - Chief Wayne
