My take on this is that the Darwin Fish is just retribution for the
Christian assimilation of the world tree, recast as the cross.

I find it odd that anthropologists, whatever their religious stripe,
find the borrowing and/or alteration of symbols as something which
is upsetting. It is like feeling that rain at your picnic is directed
against you. It happens, our job is finding out why.
