Diane, I think Bret is right. His basic point is that the attitudes of
some anthropologists seem to be cynical in their attempt to foist the
blame for environmental damage, etc., on native Americans rather than on
the European invaders and colonists.Most of the documentation, Spanish,
French and English,
does indicate that in general native Americans felt a far
greater kinship with the flora and fauna than their conquerors. Ruby
