I've already replied once privately, but if you're looking for a language,
culture and society text that is beautifully written, theoretically up to
date, and has wonderfully topical examples to work with, have a look at
Guy Cook, _The Discourse of Advertising_. It's available in paperback from
Routledge and the rare textbook that I would call terrific.
