Fax cards

Dear Folks,
Totally un-related to anthropology: I am considering getting a
fax card to put in my computer. Rather than trying to thumb
through all those back issues of PC News and whatever, I would
appreciate hearing from anyone who has used a fax card with a DOS
system (not Windows). I have some embarrassingly-elementary
questions to ask.
