Anyone who doubts the importance of kinship in "modern" societies should
consider the following scenarios:

(1) Securing a divorce where children are involved.
(2) Probating a will.
(3) Applying for a visa.

Kinship is alive and well and, given its involvement with property,
citizenship, etc., the best place to learn about it is law school.<grin>
