Makapan Pebble/Face info needed

One of my students was apparently watching some kind of Discovery Channel
science show about early man and the presenter showed something he called
either the Makapan Pebble or the Makapan face apparently associated with
an early hominid site. As described to me, it's a work of
representational carving which suggests a face. I'd never heard of it.
Can someone clue me in? (private email is okay). Was this something that
was an intrusion or a geofact interpreted as an artifact?
