I am no expert but as I understand it Neandertals didn't necessarily
carry anything in their mouth but they used their teeth as a third hand.
This might be helpful when trying to cut a piece of meat to eat as is
sometimes illustrated or maybe they gnawed and chewed hides to soften
them. I would say though that even if they did carry anything in their
mouth it wouldn't preclude them from spoken language. Anyway it would
also seem to me to be a very inefficient way to carry anything.
I think someone said it best when they said that Neand. spoke a full
blown language with not necessarily the same sounds but nonetheless
a full blown lang.
