Many thanks, James, for the excellent excerpt. I am saving it, and plan
to use it in my article "language, feminism and the internet." I
particularly resonate to the phrase "the reactions of men who attempt to
delegitimize the contributions of women." This is happening to me right
now by three male members of Anthro-l, whose names I publicized in an
earlier posting. I haven't quite got over my astonishment at finding
bully boys among anthropologists. But the majority are quite otherwise,
