May I submit that there is much of value in the "Robert the Good" thread.
Our responses to him seem to derive from two serious flaws: Mr. Johnson's
own messianic delusions, and the hostile Trotskyite tone he assumes.

If we can (as many of us have) ignore the silliness, and only respond to
the substantive, it would be far more profitable. Otherwise, we risk
ignoring some valuable contributions and opportunities. After all, we've
all heard some real foolishness from informants, and didn't get bent out
of shape. We've all taught some egregiously self-important students, and
still found "teachable moments" from the most ignorant of them.
