Dear Alexandre,
May I suggest Renato Rosaldo's discussion of grief in Ilongot society in
CULTURE AND TRUTH? Rosaldo doesn't talk about an ancient society but it
is a provocative discussion. Material on Plains Indians of North
America does recount discussion of mourning practices.... cutting off a
finger when a family member dies.... I believe Robert Lowie's THE CROW
INDIANS has a detailed account of such grieving practices among one group.
Best wishes,
