there's more to it, and it's a battle I
think worth fighting, but I warn those
who choose to do so: it'll be the only
one for which you have energy.

Suggestion 4 . . . why not ask the AAA to hire a good public relations firm
and lobby group to design a program for the 90's and beyond to show the
value of the discipline and to promote it across the board
Because the AAA doesn't know yet what
message it wants to relate to the public.
Again, John, I think your suggestion is
valuable, enough so that it deserves to
be analyzed in fuller context. I haven't
the patience to do so now.

I'm not up on the latest politics of the
AAA. Leaders have taken some progressive
steps in the last years, but I haven't
yet heard a resonant, memorable statement
of mission, the sort of thing that ought
to precede hiring lobbyists and other
secondary matters. Perhaps that just
means I haven't been paying attention ...
