You know, I thought about that as I was writing my note. All you have to do
on the application in the purpose section is lie. Tell them that you want to
teach anthro and do research. You can specify it and detail your specialty,
showing how it fits right in with the interests of half the faculty members,
etc.. But this gives ground to the mopes who inhabit lower administrative
echelons. Why should anyone jump through some myopic jerk's hoops? No, the
proper translation is to say what you intend to do in your application and let
us who want to accept you go kick administrators' ass. I guarantee you, we'll
only have to do it once.
