Graduate students' expectations

As a graduate student here at UT, I can securely state that I have no delusions
about the job market in anthropology. I doubt that anybody in our archaeology
program does. I have managed to support myself doing contract archaeology for
eight years now, without having to take on any non-archaeology positions. Many
of my colleagues _plan_ to obtain long-term careers in contract archaeology.
While I will pursue academic position voraciously upon the completion of my
PhD, I will not be disappointed whatsoever by the prospect of busting my butt
in contracting for any indefinite period of time. While this requires no
rationalization, my justification of this attitude is simply that I LOVE WHAT I
DO.
