I'm curious about how the students responded to the geography professor's
remark. I suppose I would want to know their thoughts on the matter before I
considered my response. It is interesting to me that she/he brought up the
museum display as a defense for the argument. That would seem to be a great
departure point for discussion. Perhaps you could encourage the students to
interrogate (well, in a diplomatic way) the geography professor on his/her
sources and continue a discussion of the issue in your class. Sounds like
fun.
